| The problem with identifying the mints is that the various species readily cross with each other. This specimen doesn't resemble the peppermint growing in my garden all that closely. For one thing, t's not as dark, and it smells more like spearmint. However, it appears to be a cross between spearmint and water mint, which is exactly what peppermint is. There's a lot of it on the edge of the lake in Parc Bryn Bach, Blaenau Gwent. Can be used as a herb (especially in salads - but just a little, chopped finely). |
