Scarlet pimpernel / Poor man's weather-glass / Llys y cryman / Coch y tywydd / Anagallis arvensis
Flowers May-September.

| A common 'weed of cultivation' that likes to grow in gardens and fields, on recently dug soil. I found this specimen on a recently-disturbed little patch in Parc Bryn Bach, Blaenau Gwent. It's a very small plant which straggles weakly over the ground. The name 'poor man's weather-glass' is explained by the fact that the flowers close when it is about to rain. Apparently, a blue-flowered form is found on very rare occasions. |
