Scaly polypore / Polyporus squamosus

This is one of many species of bracket-fungi that grow on diseased or dead tree trunks and stumps.  I came across this superb specimen of the fairly common scaly polypore on Offa's Dyke, on the Monmouthshire / Gloucestershire border.  The 'scaly' part of the name is because of the brown scaly upper surface, not seen here.  I have a good pic of that and will eventually add it.
